I ask only that while talking about pronunciation, we do not even passively reinforce the popular myth of &quot;total immersion&quot; (ala Rosetta Stone and the other commercial houses) with regard to the full range of learning another language.  While total immersion can be good as one feature of learning, starting maybe at the intermediate level, the notion that beginners should experience &quot;total immersion&quot; is a disservice to students.

A few obvious points:  In fat, we are NOT children; we are adults, learning a SECOND language, so too many glowing comparisons to how children learn is fallacious.  And we do not bypass our own language in &quot;total immersion&quot; programs; we simply access the word in our native language in our HEADS.

I like your last point about the need to keep practicing.  I agree that the most important advise that we can give students is &quot;just keep going!&quot;
